Globally, he said, WHO predicts the demand for herbal plants will continue to increase, reaching US$5 trillion in 2050.
“This provides huge opportunities for the phytopharmaceutical industry to become a mainstay export commodity,” he said.
Agus said currently Indonesia only has one to two phytopharmaceutical products that are exported. To grow the industry, the government has a plan for phytopharmaceuticals to be included in the National Health Insurance (JKN) system to spur domestic consumption.

“In 2022, the government has established a Phytopharmaceutical Formulary that accommodates and becomes a reference for the use of phytopharmaceuticals in public health services,” Agus explained. (rr)
