Jakarta, IO – The first gold was landed by Veddriq Leonardo in sport climbing, followed by Rizki Juniansyah in weightlifting. In a final match on Thursday (8/9), Veddriq beat Chinese opponent Wu Peng. The 1997-born athlete recorded a time of 4.75 seconds ahead of Wu Peng’s 4.77 seconds Meanwhile, the bronze medal was won by Sam Watson from the US.
The second gold was won by Rizki in the men’s 73 kg weightlifting event on Friday (9/8). This achievement also made him the first Indonesian weightlifter to win a gold at the Olympics.
He managed to record a total weight of 354 kg (snatch 155 kg and clean and jerk 199 kg). The 21-year-old outperformed her Thai rival Weeraphon Wichuma who only managed to lift 346 kg (snatch 148 kg and clean and jerk 198 kg). Meanwhile, the bronze medal was grabbed by Bulgarian athlete Dimitrov Bozhidar with a total lift of 344 kg (snatch 154 kg and clean and jerk 190 kg).

Previously, Indonesia won a bronze in badminton (women’s singles) through Gregoria Mariska Tunjung. With three medals, Indonesia’s postion soared to 28th position in the Paris Olympics official medal standings. (bp)
