Jakarta, IO – The India government is in damage control mode to defuse public anger at home and abroad, as a result of insensitive comments made by politicians from the Bharatiya Janata Party (BPJ) — a Hindu nationalist party that supports Prime Minister Narendra Modi — deemed insulting to Prophet Muhammad.

The local police have arrested 38 people suspected of being involved in the riots in the northern Indian city of Kanpur, and the demonstrations in Mumbai in a bid to contain growing religious tensions, according to report by CNN Indonesia, Tuesday (7/6).

Condemnations came from several Gulf States including Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Oman, United Arab Emirates (UAE), and Iran. Muslim nations also demanded an apology from the India Government.
