Jakarta, IO – The Geological Disaster Technology Research and Development Center (BPPTKG) head Agus Budi Santoso said Mount Merapi which borders Central Java and Yogyakarta spewed lava 13 times during observations from September 9-15.
“This week, 13 lava avalanches were observed to the southwest, heading toward the Bebeng River with a maximum sliding distance of 1,800 meters,” he said in a written statement, Saturday (17/9).
Agus said based on morphological analysis from the Tunggularum, Deles5 and Ngepos observation stations, no volume growth was observed on the lava dome in the southwest or central part of Merapi.
The volume of the southwest dome of Merapi is still calculated at 1,624,000 cubic meters, and for the central dome 2,772,000 cubic meters.
