Other than primary hypertension treatment to prevent stroke, secondary preventive measures are equally important. Results of Randomized Controlled Trials (RCT) show that anti-hypertension medication may reduce the risk of stroke by 32%. “When you select your medication, consider the stability of its dose in your blood stream. If it can hold tension down for up to 24 hours, that’s good, because you can then reduce the frequency of medication. It’s best to set the dose at once a day to maximize patient compliance. Calcium-channel blocker (CCB) work by reducing the rigidity of blood vessels in general, and dilating arterial blood vessels. They are the most frequently used type of medication for treating hypertension, because of their high level of effectiveness and safety,” dr. Eka said. “Of course, all the medications in the world will not replace the importance of living a healthy lifestyle from a young age. I simply cannot stress this often enough: lower your fat and salt intake, have sufficient rest, perform routine physical exercise, and manage your stress properly. That’s how you get healthy. It’s also the best way of preventing hypertension.” (est)
