IO – Speaker of the House (DPR) Puan Maharani has declared that the Parliament is open to all observations relating to the Job Creation Omnibus Draft Law (RUU Ciptaker). This is in line with the promise that DPR will maintain transparency and thoroughness the RUU Ciptaker submitted by the Government. “DPR RI, as the House of the people, opens its doors for labor unions so that they can express their aspirations legally and formally, i.e. by submitting data that they have collected concerning any issue pertinent to the RUU Ciptaker,” Puan said in her written statement on Tuesday (25/8/2020).
Puan stated that DPR RI already held meetings with representatives of 16 labor/worker unions, on 20-21 August 2020 in Jakarta. This meeting generated four points of agreement relating to employment clusters in the RUU Ciptaker. This agreement regulates employment relations so that they become more conducive towards the latest progress of industries. Furthermore, the discussion for RUU Ciptaker is open for public input.
DPR RI will continue discussing the RUU Ciptaker thoroughly, carefully, transparently and openly, while prioritizing the continuation of national interests. “We support the creation of job opportunities, the revival of the economy, and the growth and development of Micro, Small, and Medium-Sized Businesses (Usaha Mikro, Kecil, dan Menengah – “UMKM”) through the RUU Cipta Kerja. DPR RI invites all labor unions who have a specific aspiration to refrain from conflict – any actions that would potentially cause traffic jams or other inconveniences to other members of the public, and which would potentially turn into new clusters of COVID-19 infection,” she said.
This statement was made in response to the Indonesian Labor Unions’ Confederation (Konfederasi Serikat Buruh Indonesia – “KSPI”) latest protest in front of the Parliamentary Complex on Tuesday (25/08/2020). KSPI’s President Said Iqbal has early stated that the protest was meant to show disapproval of the validation of the RUU Ciptaker that the Government has submitted to the DPR. The Confederation has also requested that the Formulating Team take out the regulations concerning employment clusters from the RUU Ciptaker. (Dan)
