Jakarta, IO – House deputy speaker Sufmi Dasco Ahmad said the legislative body is open to the discourse on legalizing marijuana/cannabis for medical purpose, in response to the action by a citizen named Santi Warastuti who advocated the legalization of medical marijuana during a car free day (CFD) in Jakarta, Sunday (26/6).
Santi was holding a placard that read “Please, my child needs medical marijuana.” Apparently, her child suffered from cerebral palsy. She was advised to get her child CBD (cannabidiol) oil therapy, extracted from cannabis seeds. She has petitioned the Constitutional Court (MK) to hear her case.
“We have filed a judicial review in the past two years since November 2020, if I’m not mistaken. There have been eight proceedings but we have yet to have clarity on the issue of medical marijuana,” said Santi.
