House congratulates Commission’s success in recovering State monies

 IO – Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives (Dewan Perwakilan Rakyat – “DPR”) of RI Sufmi Dasco Ahmad praises the performance of the Corruption Eradication Commission (Komisi Pemberantasan Korupsi – “KPK”) under Firli Bahuri’s leadership in the first half of 2020. KPK has saved IDR 79 trillion of the State’s monies since the new head was appointed. “We express our appreciation towards KPK – to its leaders, investigators, and staff – for their overall performance in saving trillions of the State’s monies through its prevention program and in having investigated 160 cases,” he said to the press at the Parliamentary Complex, Senayan, Jakarta, on Tuesday (28/07/2020). 

Dasco requests that the KPK not allow its achievements to slow it down in performing tis function of preventing corruption and saving the State’s monies. He hopes for continued innovations, and achievements every day, so that the eradication of corruption in Indonesia continues. “Naturally, this is not the end-all achievement that we wait for. This achievement should further drive everyone in KPK to continue their work of preventing theft of the State’s monies and to issue sanctions as necessary, so that eradication of corruption in Indonesia goes well,” he said. 

KPK Chairman Firli Bahuri has earlier reported the agency’s achievement in its first semester of work from January to June 2020. He hopes that the public is aware of what KPK has been doing so far. “We are not reporting KPK’s achievements throughout the semester to show off. We only want to inform the results of our hard work every day so far,” he said on Monday (27/07/2020). 

Firli reported that his teams have investigated 160 cases from January to June 2020. They have also taken the testimonies of 3,512 witnesses and named 85 people as suspects and summoned them. KPK has also arrested 61 corruptors, with 24 others named as suspects. In this period, KPK has concluded 99 cases, with 82 of them having permanent legal verdicts and the remaining 17 still being processed. It has also performed 25 searches and 201 seizures. “We prevent corruption by intervening in the reorganization of regional assets and taxes. Along with reorganizing land certification, KPK’s measures have saved about IDR 79 trillion of State funds,” he said. (dan)
