IO, Jakarta – Horizon Hotels Group again supports the Earth Hour 2020 movement. The movement, initiated by the World Wide Fund for Nature (WWF), the largest conservation organization in the world, promotes environmental awareness, as issues have become one of the challenges with global threats, if ignored by the world community.
The concept of the Earth Hour campaign movement was first realized in the City of Sydney, Australia in 2007 as the beginning of a concrete action by turning off lights and electronic devices that were not being used for 1 hour. This action succeeded in attracting much attention from the world community, so it was followed by several other countries, one of which was Indonesia.
This is the third year for the Horison Hotels Group to support the biggest campaign movement in the world to raise the issue of climate change. The participation of the Horison Hotels Group in supporting Earth Hour, which falls on Saturday, March 28, 2020, is evidenced by the 60-minute blackout event at each Horison Group hotel unit, taking place from 20.30 to 21.30 local time. This year, Horison Hotels Group raised a theme “Glow in the Dark Overcoming Climate Change”, in which the theme emphasizes more the climate change situation faced by the world community today.
Horison Hotels Group continues to provide support for the Earth Hour campaign amid a global health crisis, due to the spread of the Covid-19 outbreak in several regions in Indonesia. However, this time the Earth Hour activities in several Horison Hotels Group units were not like those of previous years. The absence of ceremonial activities involving many people (visitors, guests, media and communities around the hotel) was intended to maintain the safety and comfort of these parties during the Covid-19 pandemic. This is because there is an official appeal from the government to maintain social distancing.
“Some hotel units under the auspices of the Horison Hotels Group with the spirit of solidarity have carried out the Earth Hour 2020 movement. We realize how important the Earth Hour movement is as a form of love for the earth, our shared home. We are sure that this simple, concrete action will be able to contribute greatly to the safety of the earth,” said Heni Juniarti, Director of Marketing Communications, Horizon Hotels Group.
The hotel staff invites the guests’ participation to put out the lights together in their hotel rooms. Besides, the lights in several other places such as the lobby area, reception, restaurant, and lounge were also turned off.
