Jakarta, IO – Health Minister Budi Gunadi Sadikin predicts that the peak of the Omicron variants BA.4 and BA.5 transmission in Jakarta is around the corner, based on the latest data which showed that about 85% of Covid-19 cases reported in the capital were due to exposure to the subvariants.
“85 percent of genome sequencing (WGS) results are of Omicron variants. So, many of the sufferers in Jakarta are infected by Omicron. In my opinion, the outbreak will soon reach its peak,” said Budi, as reported by CNN Indonesia on Thursday (30/6).
The same is true on a national level. Budi estimates that Indonesia will experience a surge in cases in the second or third week of July. However, he said the mortality and hospitalization rate would not be as high as the original Omicron outbreak, let alone Delta.
