Heru Budi himself is not new to Jakarta Provincial Administration. He was Head of Jakarta Regional Assets Financial Management Agency during former governor Basuki Tjahaja Purnama (2015-2017). He is also the former mayor of North Jakarta.
Meanwhile, Bahtiar, who Adi believes is in the “runner up” position, holds a fairly strategic position at the Home Ministry as Director General of Politics and General Administration (Polpum).
“The last one is Marullah Mattali. Even though he is a Betawi native and the current regional secretary, his political capital is weaker than Heru and Bahtiar,” said Adi.

“The power factor certainly cannot be separated from the desire to ensure that Anies’s replacement is someone who on the same page as the government, and is well connected. Not like Anies, whose policies often deviate from the central government,” said Adi. (rr)
