Govt deports and imposes entry bans on dozens of Taiwanese citizens

Jakarta, IO – The government deported dozens of foreign nationals from Taiwan over alleged serious crimes they committed in their home country.

Eleven out of a total of 13 of them were also banned from entering Indonesia. They were deported using China Airlines.

Immigration Director General Silmy Karim said they were allegedly involved in various criminal acts ranging from fraud, money laundering, narcotics, to assaults in Taiwan.

“After an in-depth examination by immigration officers, these thirteen foreigners turned out to be perpetrators of serious crimes in Taiwan. They will undergo a legal process in Taiwan,” said Silmy, per CNN Indonesia, Sunday (8/7).

The immigration office also submitted various pieces of evidence to the Taiwanese authorities. They were escorted by the Taiwanese police during the deportation process.

“Apart from deporting them, we have also put them on a black list so they cannot return to Indonesia,” he added.

Silmy said the Immigration Directorate General will continue to carry out early detection measures to prevent Indonesia from becoming a place where fugitives can escape to.

“Indonesia must not be an escape destination for international criminals and a hotbed for cyber criminals,” said Silmy. (un)
