Jakarta, IO – Tourism and Creative Economy Minister Sandiaga Salahuddin Uno discussed the implementation of the golden visa with President Joko Widodo at the Presidential Palace, Monday (29/5).
He explained that the golden visa policy aims to increase foreign investment and create more jobs.
Specifically, Sandiaga mentioned the digital economy sector, which according to him has the potential to absorb a large number of workers in the country.
“Golden visa is a new policy to attract quality talent in the fields of digital economy, health, research and technology,” said Sandiaga, reported CNBC Indonesia, Tuesday (30/5).
“We hope it will become a game changer and bring in more tourists, especially the so-called digital nomads and digital entrepreneurs to invest in Indonesia. This will be crafted and announced by the government soon,” he added.
According to Sandiaga, the legal umbrella for the visa policy will be announced by the Law and Human Rights Ministry. The visa will grant residence permits or citizenship to foreigners who make minimum amount of investment or paying a certain amount of fees.
Golden visa holders can enjoy a slew of exclusive benefits such as easier and faster procedures and requirements for visa applications and immigration matters, higher mobility with multiple entries, stay longer, the right to own assets in the country and a fast track application to acquire Indonesian citizenship.
