Jakarta, IO – The government plans to buy the monkeypox (Mpox) vaccines from Japan, said Foreign Minister Retno Marsudi, Thursday (5/9).

“We are also currently exploring the possibility of cooperation with Japan, which is the producer of the LC16 vaccine, in vaccine procurement,” said Retno, as per Kumparan, Fri (6/9).

Retno said the government’s stance in handling Mpox is almost the same as when dealing with Covid-19, namely cooperation and collaboration with various countries.

“Mpox is a transnational issue so its handling requires closer cooperation from early on,” she said.

In addition, the government will also help African countries to combat the disease by sending assistance in the form of Mpox diagnostic kits and therapeutic drugs.

As of August, there have been more than 14,524 Mpox deaths. In Indonesia, around 88 cases of Mpox have been detected since 2022. So far this year, the case tally stands at 14. (un)
