Jakarta, IO – Indonesia is never short of great people. Indonesian inventors have made a splash in various fields of sciences, from inventing an eco-friendly stove, solving difficult mathematical formulas to engineering flyover construction which is even applied in the United States.

According to CNBC Indonesia, here is a list of 5 famed inventors from Indonesia.

  1. Khoirul Anwar

Khoirul is the inventor of double Fast Fourier Transform (FFT). This concept was later used in 4G LTE and became the International Telecommunication Union (ITU) standard and was patented in 2005. The graduate of the Nara Institute of Science and Technology, Japan, also holds several other patents, such as an illegal transmitter detection system that can potentially be applied in 5G technology.

  1. Yogi Ahmad Erlangga

Yogi managed to solve a complex formula – the Helmholtz equation — using robust numerical mathematics. This allows the Helmholtz equation used in seismic data calculation to be processed a hundred times faster. This method is considered to be better and faster than the one usually used by oil companies. Yogi is also said to have found the formula to solve various issues in petroleum extraction.

  1. Randall Hartolaksono

Randall, a graduate of the University of London, managed to find fire- and heat-proof ingredients from cassava peels. The material is eventually used by global automotive companies and is recognized by major companies such as Petronas and Ford.

  1. Muhammad Nurhuda

The lecturer at the Universitas Brawijaya’s Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences succeeded in creating an environmentally friendly stove based on his research titled “The development of energy-efficient and environmentally friendly biomass stoves.” He also developed a pilot project for waste gasification into syngas for environmentally friendly alternative electric energy generation, which managed to produce emission below the WHO guidelines.

  1. Tjokorda Raka Sukawati

Tjokorda, a civil engineer who graduated from Bandung Institute of Technology (ITB), succeeded in inventing the construction of the Sosrobahu (“a thousand shoulders”) road construction technique used to build flyovers without disrupting the traffic flow. His invention was applied by US engineers to build a bridge in Seattle. (un)
