Garmin Unveils Forerunner 955, World’s First GPS
Running Smartwatch with Solar Charging

Jakarta, IO – Today, Garmin is officially announced new smartwatches for running enthusiasts: Forerunner 955 Solar and Forerunner 255 In Indonesia. The new additions to Garmin’s Forerunner range, the preferred choice of runners across the world, are triathlon-ready smartwatches fully-equipped with an array of training features designed for professional and mid-level runners and athletes. For Forerunner 955 Solar, this smartwatch features solar power lens of Power GlassTM, the first-ever dedicated GPS running smartwatch with solar charging. The Forerunner 255 series includes the Forerunner 255 S and Forerunner 255S Music edition. The Forerunner 255 series can last up to 14 days in smartwatch mode and provides up to 30 hours of battery life in GPS mode on a single charge. 

This newest series from the running segment was based on a 50% increase in running activity in Indonesia with a series of events that seem to rise and contribute to the growth of sport-tourism. “Forerunner 955 Solar and Forerunner 255 are expected to become running buddies for Indonesian users, as both were developed to optimize their training regimen. We wanted to create a GPS smartwatch that caters to the needs of serious runners and athletes, to help them get the best results from their training,” said Scoppen Lin, Assistant General Manager Garmin Asia.

Featuring a Power Glass™ solar charging lens, the Forerunner 955 Solar gives athletes 50% more battery life (up to 20 days of battery life in smartwatch mode and up to 49 hours in GPS mode with solar). The responsive touchscreen complements the traditional 5-button design, allowing fast and easy access for daily use. Designed with the runner in mind, the Forerunner 955 Solar adds innovative new features like heart rate variability (HRV) status, a training readiness score, running power and race widget to help athletes better prepare for upcoming races.
