Suwarno added that the identity of Yogyakarta needs to be built and bolstered in many ways, including in the outskirts and a number of cultural sites. According to him, Kotagede is very appropriate as the location for the 2022 Gugur Gunung art exhibition because it is a “living museum.”
“Gugur Gunung implies working together to achieve goals for the common good. Our basic nature as social beings is togetherness. Artworks also have the welcoming characteristic to ‘greet’ anyone in a gentle or provocative way,” said Suwarno.
