French national breaks into minimarket in Bali, walks away with Rp35 million

Jakarta, IO – Police nabbe a French citizen, identified as JRM, after he broke into a minimarket on Kuru Setra St., Benoa, South Kuta, Bali. He managed to steal several packs of cigarettes, a bottle of coke and Rp35 million of cash.

Denpasar Police Chief Bambang Yugo Pamungkas said it took place on Monday (23/2).

“The perpetrator hid in the shop before it was closed then he got in from the ceiling,” explained Bambang, reported Kompas, Tuesday (28/2).

The burglary was discovered when the minimarket employee realized that things were missing and reported it to the police. The store’s CCTV and witness statement gave police the information that there was a man who had been chased by residents and hid in the bushes around the scene.

The perpetrator was charged with Penal Code Article 363 which carries a maximum prison sentence of seven years. (rr)
