Former KPU chairman Hasyim Asy’ari dishonorable dismissed

Jakarta, IO – Ari Dwipayana, presidential special staff coordinator, stated that President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo has signed the Presidential Decree for the Dishonorable Discharge of Hasyim Asy’ari as Chairman of the General Elections Commission (KPU).

“Following up on the decision of the DKPP (Election Organization Ethics Council) and in line with the provisions of Law 7/2017 concerning General Elections, the president has signed Presidential Decree 73P dated July 9, 2024 concerning the Dishonorable Discharge of Hasyim Asy’ari as Member of the KPU term 2022-2027,” Ari said, per Kumparan, Wednesday (10/7).

DKPP found Hasyim Asy’ari guilty of ethic violations for harassing a female overseas poll administrator identified as CAT, Wednesday (3/7). In its decree, DKPP panel of judges granted the request submitted by the plaintiff as it found that Hasyim had given CAT special facilities and preferential treatment in exchange for exploitative sexual relations that were beyond normal interactions between superiors and subordinates. The relations took place when the plaintiff was undergoing training as member of PPLN Den Haag on October 3, 2023.

This proves beyond a doubt that Hasyim has failed to protect the honor and credibility of KPU and his indecent actions against CAT violated trust between superior and subordinate. (un)
