Jakarta, IO – FIFA President Gianni Infantino asked world leaders to consider a truce option as a first step towards peace during one month when the World Cup is held.

He conveyed this at the luncheon attended by leaders of the G20 countries at the Bambu House, Ocean Front Lawn, The Apurva Kempinski Hotel, Nusa Dua, Bali, Tuesday (11/15).

“You are the world leaders. You have the ability to influence the course of history,” said Gianni, adding that he invited leaders to take this opportunity to do various ways to end all conflicts that are currently afflicting the world.

“Football and the World Cup are offering you and the world a unique platform of unity and peace all over the world,” he said.

The 2022 World Cup in Qatar will take place from November 20 to December 18, 2022. For the first time in history, the World Cup will be held in an Arab country.

And also for the first time in history the World Cup will be held at the end of the year because of the extreme hot weather in Qatar between June-July, the time of the year when the world’s biggest sporting event was traditionally held. As a result, the 2022 World Cup will only last for 28 days, the shortest since the 1978 edition in Argentina, which lasted 25 days. (rr)
