Jakarta, IO – The fate of former police internal affairs chief Inspector General Ferdy Sambo is in the hands of President Joko Widodo as per Presidential Regulation (Perpres) 52/2010 on the provisions for dismissing members of the police force based on rank and position.

The Perpres stipulated the President’s authority in the dismissal of police generals with two stars and higher, CNN Indonesia reported on Monday (29/8).

“The appointment and dismissal of high-ranking police officers with two stars and higher or those in Echelon IA and IB positions are determined by the National Police Chief after consultation with the President,” Article 57 reads.

This provision was also mentioned by the National Police spokesperson Inspector General Dedi Prasetyo after the Ferdy Sambo’s code of ethics trial recently. Dedi revealed this was why Sambo was still wearing his full uniform after he was unceremoniously dismissed.

However, there has yet been any official announcement when Jokowi will decide to formalize Sambo’s dismissal from the force. However, National Police Chief Gen. Listyo Sigit Prabowo was reportedly summoned to the state palace after the Police Code of Ethics Commission (KKEP) concluded the trial. (un)
