Yogyakarta, IO – The Jogja National Museum in Yogyakarta is currently hosting the ARTJOG 2024 contemporary art event, which premiered on June 28 and will last until September 1. With its intriguing theme of “Motif: Prophecy,” ARTJOG 2024 will feature works by 48 local and international individual and group artists, as well as 36 young artists.
According to ARTJOG CEO Heri Pemad, the theme of prophecy covers broad meaning and encompasses imaginary patterns that connect the past, present, and future. As an imaginative motif, the meaning of an event is not entirely determined by its predecessors, similar to a scientific theory.
“For artists, prophecy is an act of imagination and foresight that fuels creativity in their artistic process. This theme is not just about affirming the past predictions but invites us to reimagine future events and hopes,” Heri explained.
This year, ARTJOG 2024 has specially invited Agus Suwage and Titarubi as commissioned artists for their work, “Suara Keheningan” (2024). Their interactive installation art presents interconnected ideas through various dimensions and media. Displayed in front of the exhibition building, the artwork occupies a special space with a lobby area and corridors with several rooms.
Agus Suwage’s installation features objects resembling human ears as symbols of the auditory sense, highlighting its “tolerant” nature in our noisy social space. In the same space, Titarubi cultivates various types of rice, accompanied by recordings of indigenous community prayers, proverbs, and praises, which can also be heard in Suwage’s rooms. Additionally, Jun Kitazawa reimagines a chunk of metal from the Hayabusa fighter jet into a flyable, long-tailed kite.
ARTJOG KIDS showcases the artwork of young artists, often providing fresh and unfiltered perspectives on the world around them. This section aims to promote early art education and regeneration. As many as 36 children aged 6 to 15 created selected artworks after a curation process from 254 applicants, presenting 70 pieces.

Collaboratively created with the Mandala Kadewaguruan Community of Malang, the artwork includes 27 canvases depicting children’s daily activities, inspired by anime and comic characters such as Maruko Chan, Shin Chan, Harikoo, and Totoro.
The exhibition is open to the public from 10:00 AM to 9:00 PM, with entrance tickets priced at IDR 75,000 for adults and IDR 50,000 for children aged 6 and up. (des)
