Jakarta, IO – In Kramat Pulo, or to be precise at Gaplok Market, Central Jakarta, there is a kampong (settlement or compound) where the majority of the residents depend on Ondel-Ondel (giant Betawi effigies) for their livelihood.

Yadi (54) is one of the Ondel-Ondel makers in the kampong. This month, when Jakarta celebrates its 495th anniversary, Yadi hopes that the art of Ondel-Ondel can not only survive but also thrive so the craftsmen can see their welfare improved. (Dumaz Artadi)
