Ex-agrarian and spatial planning minister found dead in hotel basement

Jakarta, IO – Ferry Mursyidan Baldan, who served as the agrarian and spatial planning minister from 2014-17 during President Jokowi’s first-term administration, was found dead inside his car in the basement of Bidakara Hotel, South Jakarta.

Police were informed after a hotel staff became suspicious of a car that had been parked since Thursday (1/12), said Tebet Police Chief Commissioner Chitya Intania, reported CNN Indonesia, Saturday (3/12).

However, Chitya refused to provide further details about the manner and cause of his death as investigation by the criminal investigation unit is still ongoing.

Ferry was born on June 16, 1961 in Jakarta. He was an alumnus of Padjadjaran University and was active in the influential Islamic Students Association (HMI). His political career comprises being a cadre of Golkar and NasDem.

He was elected lawmaker in 1997 election, representing Golkar in the House of Representatives (DPR). He was re-elected in the 1999 and 2004 elections. In the 2019 presidential election, Ferry joined the Prabowo Subianto-Sandiaga Uno national campaign team. (un)
