Enticed by salary worth tens of millions, Indonesian citizen found dead in Cambodia

Jakarta, IO – Rendy Ondang, from North Sulawesi, was found dead in Cambodia, Tuesday (21/3). He went there to work, lured by the promise of tens of millions of rupiah in salary.

The victim’s lawyer Marchelino Mewengkang revealed that his body was found swollen and an ID lanyard tied around his neck, reported Detik (24/3).

Mewengkang said the local police has conducted investigation. The government through Indonesian Embassy in Cambodia are in the process of repatriating his body.

“The process may take 4 to 5 days, because there are several procedures that must be met,” he said.

Mewekang revealed that Ondang and his wife received a job offer as customer service at a company in Cambodia.

However, upon arriving they found that they had been deceived. Instead, they were employed as scammers and promised a monthly wage of Rp17 million.

“Because he felt cheated and depressed, he ran away,” he said. (un)
