The artwork speaks volumes about the influence of Asia on European culture. When viewed at close proximity, the sketch is shaped from a row of typographical letters sourced from the writings in the book “Asia in The Making of Europe” volume 1, by Donald F Lach.
Andonowati, owner of Lawangwangi Creative Space, explained that the sketch in the painting was originally the work of Georg Hertel. Canvas, oil paints, and acrylic paints used as conventional materials were brought back to life by Eddy through typography using a drawing pen, breathing a new context into the original painting.
“Eddy’s concept is related to visual archive, how the historical elements of European colonization in Asia and the influence on European culture can be visualized and immortalized,” Andonowati told the Independent Observer, Thursday (7/4).
