Jakarta, IO – Officers from the Jakarta Environmental Agency weigh e-waste at the E-Waste Warehouse, Jakarta (2/8). Every year, the agency manages around 70 tons of e-waste, with more than 700 kilograms collected every month from various areas in Jakarta.
These include various types of equipment such as tube TVs, dry and wet batteries, video/DVD/stereo systems, antennas, communication devices, PCs, laptops, fax machines, printers, fans, lamps, air conditioners, mixers, microwaves, washing machines, irons, and toys. They must be managed effectively and responsible to prevent negative impacts on the environment.
One of the initiatives is to provide a free e-waste pick-up service directly from residents’ homes, making it easier for Jakarta residents to dispose of their e-waste properly and safely. With this service, residents do not need to bother bringing their e-waste to a specific disposal site. They simply need to contact the agency for them to be picked up.

The agency has also strived to raise public awareness about the importance of proper e-waste disposal and management through various campaigns and education programs. This effort is expected to reduce the amount of e-waste that is carelessly disposed of and increase public participation in the e-waste management in the city. (IO/Faisal Ramadhan)
