IO – Founder and Board of Trustees of the Medical Emergency Rescue Committee (MER-C), Dr. Joserizal Jurnalis, SpOT, passed away Monday 20 January at 00.38 WIB at Harapan Kita Hospital, Jakarta.
The doctor, who was born in Padang, May 11, 1963, was known as the initiator of the establishment of the Indonesian Hospital in Gaza, Palestine, which began in 2009. This hospital became an icon of Indonesia in Palestine.
“Please forgive all his mistakes whether intended or unintended. Thank you for all the prayers and attention from relatives, friends, relations, brothers and sisters in arms during his illness until the end of his life,” read the official Mer-C website.
“Good-bye Dr. Joserizal, We hope you achieve Husnul Khotimah. We pray for your journey to face God the Creator who loves you more than us.”
Joserizal was a doctor who studied at the Faculty of Medicine, University of Indonesia in 1988 and in PPDS Orthopedic FKUI in 1999.
Chairman of the MER- Presidium Presidium C, Henry Hidayatullah recounts his friend’s heroic actions while on duty in Maluku. Around 1999 during the conflict in Maluku, he and Joserizal met with many victims of the conflict, lying in a mosque.
“Many victims of the conflict were not taken care of: there were patients who had been hit by arrows in their shoulder, patients had been on the mosque for five days without any treatment. In there we carried out the operation of removing arrows and treating the injured victims,” as said by Henry and quoted by Republika.
Joserizal also went to Afghanistan to help victims of the war. Many victims suffered burns and being hit by bomb fragments. Right in the month of Ramadan when he was treating victims of war, US fighter planes (US) fired missiles.
This orthopedic and traumatology surgeon has a wealth of experience, helping victims of conflict and war, such as in Maluku, Mindanao, Afghanistan, Iraq, Palestine and other areas.
