IO, Jakarta – The warming of trade relations between China and the United States is inversely proportional to the relationship between Indonesia and China. Especially in the era of President Joko Widodo’s leadership, the relation between Indonesia and China is increasingly tight in the form of cooperation in various sectors, one of which was infrastructure and capital.

The harmonious G2G relationship between Indonesia and China is also welcomed by the people’s representatives in Senayan. This is proved by the warm reception of the visit of the Chinese Ambassador to Indonesia H.E. MR. Xiao Qian to Deputy Chairperson of the Indonesian Parliament Coordinating Minister for People’s Welfare (Korkesra) Fahri Hamzah in the Parliament Complex, Senayan, Jakarta, Monday (06/17)

After the meeting, Fahri said the meeting was an ordinary get-together that the group from China carried out for the sake of diplomacy, led by MR. Xiao, who previously had served as Chinese Ambassador in Malaysia, so that he had a deep understanding of Southeast Asia. Fahri said that now is the right moment for Indonesia and China to meet each other to talk over many issues so as not to cause misunderstandings.

“We appreciate this kind of meeting, because they are asking, coming, to meet us, so we appreciate our close relationship with China that has been going on for a long time. I also had time to tell about the bases of the intimate relationship between us (Indonesia) and China. That is why the DPR supports all forms of communication with various parties,” he continued. Fahri hopes that the meeting will bring information exchange and a stronger mutual understanding between the two countries.

Fahri further mentioned that China knows matters through old texts that sound positive, such as “Learning things from China”.  Also, the history of Admiral Cheng Ho in Indonesia. “All are positive stories. We have to tell them to develop diplomacy with such a platform, so that it is more positive and can explain what is considered by the other world as issues,” Fahri added.

Fahri said that he criticized the relation between Indonesia and countries such as China narrowly, only related to economic matters, even though it should be enhanced as cultural diplomacy, peace diplomacy, and diplomacy that is wider in scope and higher in value.

“Don’t narrow it down. We are tired of talking about the economy all the time. In fact, there are other issues that are quite apprehensive for us to pay attention to, such as about humans, culture, freedom and so on. We in the House of Representatives (DPR) explain things that are possible from the Executive which they had never heard. Therefore, we encourage openness of communication so that there is no misunderstanding,” he concluded. (D. Ramdani)
