Dozens of blood bags marked with “HIV” found at a waste disposal site in Bangkalan, East Java

Jakarta, IO – They were found by Bangkalan Environmental Agency on Monday (20/2).

“Besides blood bags, there were also blood transfusion kits,” said the agency head Yudistira, reported Republika, Thursday (23/2).

Police investigation found that they belonged to the Bangkalan office of the Indonesian Red Cross (PMI).

Bangkalan PMI head As’ad Asjari acknowledged that the blood bags belonged to them. He also admitted that it was a mistake and negligence by the team that should have disposed of the waste in a safe place.

“This was purely an internal error that happened outside of our control. We apologize for this incident, and we promise to immediately conduct an internal evaluation with East Java PMI to identify the root cause of this problem,” said Asjari.

“The blood bags have been handed over to Bangkalan General Hospital to be safely disposed of,” he said. (un)
