According to Law 7/2017 on general elections, Democratic Party-PKB-PKS coalition will be able to nominate their own presidential and vice-presidential candidates in 2024 as they have enough seats in the House of Representatives.
Democratic Party chairman Agus Harimurti Yudhoyono also has the highest electability compared to PKB and PKS cadres. According to several surveys, he is often among the top 10 figures with a chance of running either as a presidential or vice-presidential candidate.
Median, for example, announced last March that AHY’s electability was fourth highest at 5.1 percent after Prabowo Subianto, Anies Baswedan and Ganjar Pranowo. Presidential candidacy survey by Poltracking Indonesia also put him on the fourth place with 3.6%, after Ganjar Pranowo, Prabowo Subianto, and Anies Baswedan.
Golkar, PAN and PPP have earlier formed a coalition called the United Indonesia Coalition (KIB). This leaves NasDem, PDI-P and Gerindra as parties still without a coalition. However, PDI-P can go on its own. NasDem and Gerindra, on the other hand, need coalition partners because they don’t have enough seats in the House. (rr)
