Cyber expert doubts Luhut’s big data justification for elections postponement

According to research by non-profit organization CISSReC using Open Source Intelligence (OSINT), Twitter accounts that discussed about presidential term extension numbered around 117,746 (tweets, replies, retweets) with 11,868 online articles.

“From the data, we can learn that 83.6% rejected the idea while 16.4% supported it. Meanwhile, 76.9% online media were ‘against’ and 23.1% ‘for.’ From this data alone, it is clear that the opponents are the majority,” explained Pratama. The data was gathered between February 15 to March 15 and analyzed following Luhut’s statement.

The most prominent figures opposing the discourse was Agus Harimurti, chairman of the Democratic Party with 1,420 news articles, followed by Surya Paloh, chairman of Nasdem, with 555 articles. The ‘pro’ figures were Muhaimin Iskandar, chairman of PKB, with 3,892 articles, followed by Zulkifli Hasan, chairman of PAN.

“There were also 10 organizations supporting the idea namely PKB, Golkar, and Coordinating Maritimes Affairs and Investment Ministry. On the other hand, 71 organizations were against, namely PPP, PDI-P, LSI [Indonesian Survey Institute], Democratic Party, Muhammadiyah, and many others,” he continued.
