Soop Island

Soop Island is a beautiful coral cliff island forty minutes away from Sorong by a long boat in Sorong Sea Taxi Stop and is fifteen minutes away from Doom Island by fishing boat or long boat.

Island hoppers will find a long Japanese-built stoned footpath crossing the shallow sea called the Stone Bridge or Jembatan Batu, old Japanese bunkers used as defense bases, and preserved old Dutch wells as appealing tourist destinations.

The island is famous for tourist snorkeling and diving points, as it offers beautiful reefs and amazing underwater sights. “We are currently preparing a camping area for tourists to fully enjoy this place. I specifically want to appreciate the locals for developing the tourism potential on Soop Island. It is important for the local community to boost their economy,” said Head of the Division of Supply Chain Management and Cost Analysis of SKK Migas, Erwin Suryadi.

Arar Village

The village of Kampung Arar, near Sorong, is a peaceful place for different religions to live and share togetherness under harmonious unity and tolerance. “Kampung Arar is listed as the Maritime and Culinary Tourism Village empowerment program area by the SKK Migas Team in Papua and Maluku regions. The SKK Migas collaborates with Kampung Arar Village-Owned Enterprise (small-level GOE) and expects to build a marketing chain of fisheries by local fishers to benefit residents. We hope to diversify the economy by creating and selling Arar fish in various snacks, meatballs and fish crackers. “The local fishermen can now become fish suppliers for caterers in Petrogas oil company in Sorong,” Erwin added.

Make sure to spend time and dine in the culinary charm of Kampung Arar, which offers unique seafood balls in coconut shell bowls and seaweed cake sticks.

Sisi Island

Sisi Island is ten minutes away from Kampung Arar by a fishing or long boat. Sisi Island offers a camping area and a beautiful sunset view in the afternoon.

Sisi Island is one of the developing Sorong islands with high tourism potential. The resident and oil companies around Sorong have collaborated in providing the island camping facilities. “Sisi Island is Sorong’s residents’ attraction on the weekends. Therefore, accommodating the locals with a camping area will certainly improve the local economic potential,” explained Galih Agusetiawan, Head of the Public Relations Department of SKK Migas Papua & Maluku Region.

Yerusel Island

It is located around one and a half hour away from Sorong by a double-engine boat. Yerusel Island is a heaven of the underwater world for snorkeling and diving lover. The island’s clear water and white sand beach make it very suitable for swimming.
