IO – The reappearance of a fugitive Djoko Tjandra steals public attention in recent days. Coordinating Minister for Political, Legal, and Security Affairs Mahfud MD said that the government is ready to reactivate the Corruption Hunters Team (TPK). Mahfud ensures that the presidential instructions covering the reactivate of TPK has been issued, and a team will be formed soon.
The Presidential Instruction (Inpres) regarding a Corruption Hunters Team has already been received by the Coordinating Ministry of Political, Legal, and Security Affairs. “Because we already have the instruction regarding the assets hunting team and suspects and convicted corrupters hunters team and other criminals, soon we will form the team. Of course, by accommodating feedback and input from the community,” Mahfud conveyed in a video posted on his official Instagram, @mohmafudmd, Tuesday (14/07/2020).
He confirmed the team will be composed of representatives from several national institutions, including the National Police, the Attorney General’s Office, the Ministry of Law and Human Rights, and the Ministry of Home Affairs. The team will seek out and detain suspects and convicted corrupters who escape or go into hiding.
Formation of a Corruption Hunters Team would seem to be at odds with President Jokowi’s plan to dissolve 18 bodies, institutions, and commissions shortly. Moreover, the task of the team is identical to that of the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK). Regarding the matter, Mahfud explained that Corruption Hunters Team was first established in the era of President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono in 2002.
According to him, the reactivation of this team was also not due to the rush of reports on Bank Bali fugitive Djoko Tjandra, who already holds e-KTP and has an immigration permit from the Criminal Investigation Police. Mahfud stressed that this team was not only formed to pursue Djoko Tjandra alone but also other fugitives. “The reactivation of the team of corruptor hunters, asset hunters, suspect hunters, convicted hunters in criminal acts who fled or who hid or were hidden is now continuing,” Mahfud said.
Unlike the KPK
The Minister refused the Corruption Hunters Team to be accused of undermining the function of the Corruption Eradication Commission. According to Mahfud, KPK has a different field which is the eradication of corruption. “KPK is a separate institution. What the KPK is pursuing will certainly be coordinated separately, because after all the KPK is a specialized institution in the field of corruption eradication and may already have its own steps which we will coordinate with,” he confirmed.
