Excessive Activity

Migraine is basically an abnormality caused by an excessive condition in the brain stem. “The most frequent triggering factors for this illness are hunger; special psychological conditions, generally stress, anxiety, anger, rage, overthinking; certain food items like MSG, chocolate, cheese or other dairy products; also insufficient rest. To prevent recurrence, avoid these triggering factors. For example, I have come across multiple patients whose migraine gets cured as soon as their mental burden is lifted. Others also get better with coffee. It’s true – caffeine can eliminate migraine. With the caveat, of course, that there are no co-morbidities in the patient,” dr. Norma said.

When should we go to the doctor to treat a migraine?

“Migraine is something everyone should be wary of. Immediately go to the doctor if it does not lift within 4-72 hours, or 3 days, after you take medication. If you continue to suffer from a migraine headache after 3 days, you must consume some other medication to get rid of the headache – especially if your migraine comes with an ‘aura’ like I described above. You might even need to get an IV treatment, which necessitates a hospital stay. Again, please beware of migraine complications, because it increases the risk of having a stroke in the long term,” dr. Norma warns.

Alas, migraines will never heal completely. To avoid recurrence, dr. Norma reiterates the importance of the patient identifying their personal triggering factor, which will be different for every person. For example, if you know that MSG causes you to have a migraine attack, don’t consume it any more, or at least reduce your MSG consumption. (est)
