IO – Head of the Republic of Indonesia’s House of Representatives’ (Dewan Perwakilan Rakyat Republik Indone- sia – “DPR RI”) Commission III Her- man Hery urges the Attorney Gener- al’s Of ce of RI to work to synergize with the Corruption Eradication Commission (Komisi Pemberantasan Korupsi – “KPK”) in law enforcement. Herman stated that some people like to build up unrest in society relating to their performance in handling cas- es by KPK and the Attorney General’s Of ce.

Herman declared that he does not want to hear about any more con- icts between the KPK and the Attor- ney General’s Of ce. The most recent cases involving these two institutions are related to Attorney General’s Of- ce internal mishandling of the Djoko Tjandra case and the prolonged pro- cessing of the Jiwasraya corruption case. Many people demand that the prosecution of the two cases be hand-

ed over to KPK.
Commission III intends to build

a professional and digni ed part- nership, one which allows the two Government agencies to per- form their respective functions and duties effectively. Commis- sion III provides constructive in- puts and avoids statements that might arouse con icts in law en- forcement. “We as the leaders of Commission III direct these two agencies to maintain their syner- gy and to avoid focusing on their own institutional egos. This will es- tablish good moral synergy among law enforcers, good communica- tions. We need to avoid noise that may provoke unnecessary con icts between the Attorney’s Of ce and KPK,” Herman said during a work meeting with the Attorney General of RI and KPK in the Commission III Meeting Room, Nusantara II Build- ing, Senayan, Jakarta, on Monday (14/09/2020).

The meeting also discussed the

Ministry and Government Agency Work Plan and Budget (Rencana Kerja dan Anggaran Kementerian dan Lembaga – “RKAKL”) for both the Attorney General and KPK. In the meeting, Commission III of DPR RI supported a budget increase for the two agencies. Initially, the 2021 budget for the Attorney General was IDR 9.243 trillion, with a proposed increase of IDR 400 billion. KPK’s 2021 budget was initially IDR 1.055 trillion, with a proposed increase of IDR 825.92 billion.

“I would like to take this oppor- tunity to refer to Commission III’s support of the budgets of the Attor- ney General’s Of ce and KPK. Even though it is not unusual, Commis- sion III is committed to support the performance of its partners,” Herman said. “We hope that this budget support be followed by the two institutions’ synergy in law en- forcement, so that their duties and functions are executed more profes- sionally.” (Dan)
