Jakarta, IO – To commemorate World No Tobacco Day (HTTS) which falls every May 31, the Indonesian Society of Respirology (PDPI) again warns the public about the dangers of smoking both conventional and electronic cigarettes (vape).

Lung specialist Feni Fitriani Taufik said the use of tobacco in cigarettes is now the second leading cause of death in the world. It triggers not only lung-related diseases such as Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD), lung cancer, or chronic bronchitis, but also exacerbate other diseases.

“In addition, it poses risk to other organs such as coronary heart disease, stroke, the risk of impotence in the reproductive organs and worsening existing chronic diseases such as diabetes mellitus and hypertension,” said Feni on Monday (30/5).
