Jakarta, IO – Indonesian Textile Association (API) chairman Jemmy Kartiwa Sastraatmaja said domestic textile and apparel (TPT) industry is struggling even more as textile exporting countries such as China and Bangladesh are now setting their eyes on the Indonesian market as demand in the US and EU wanes, reported Katadata, Thursday (2/3).

Indonesia’s TPT industry mostly supplies the export market. They usually received orders from major brands in the US and EU.

However, currently the demand has dropped dramatically due to high inflation in those countries. As a result, local TPT industry now only relies on domestic market, meaning they have to compete head-to-head with imported products from China and Bangladesh, which currently domimate 30 percent of the Indonesian market.
