Jakarta, IO – “I want to show all women that if I can and have that confidence, they can too,” said 47-year-old Sam Lewis.

Lewis has undergone eight cycles of chemotherapy, a mastectomy procedure to remove her left breast, and radiotherapy after being diagnosed with breast cancer. But now she has been crowned as a beauty queen in America and England, reported Liputan6, Tuesday (29/11).

For Lewis, this is not only a personal achievement, but a victory for cancer survivors everywhere. “I want to show women with cancer that they can’t let the disease hold them back. Women lose so much self-confidence when battling this disease,” she said.

“I want to tell them that you have nothing to be ashamed of your body and mastectomy scars. They are your badge of war.”

Lewis, who lives with her husband Andrew and their three children – Sharna, Annabelle and Henry – was working as a school gym teacher and dance instructor when she discovered a lump in her left breast while taking a shower in August 2012 when she was 37 years old.
