“There are many factors that build up an individual’s mental health, including genetics and environment. Good resilience is built when you learn how to pause and identify the stressors in your problems and the causes of the problems. From there, you learn how to face and solve your problems. You learn how to face things that make you feel reluctant or uncomfortable, you learn how to identify and accept your emotions, and how to handle them. When you come across a problem, and you will, pause and think quietly: ‘What should I do?’ Most human problems are not urgently life-threatening, even though we must be able to accept death and loss too. In order to build detachment, maintain a distance from the source of the problem, talk it out with a friend you can trust who will not undermine your feelings and ridicule you, rant in your diary, or do self-talk. These are several proven ways to manage your stress and keep your mental health. One important note: do not self-talk out loud in public! Either do it silently in your mind, or do it out loud when you are alone in your room, or in the city park, or on the stairs or rooftop, or in other safe, private spaces where you can speak out unmolested,” dr. Zulvia said.

There are six methods adults can use to build mental resilience:

First, learn to accept reality. Practice facing uncertainties, and accept that some things will always be out of our control.
