BPS: 8.4 million Indonesians still unemployed because of pandemic

Jakarta, IO – Unemployment reached 8.4 million in February 2022, noted Statistics Indonesia (BPS).

BPS head Margo Yuwono said the figure was down from 8.75 million people in the same period last year due to the Covid-19 pandemic. Open unemployment rate (TPT) in February 2022 stood at 5.83%.

“Although in the past year it has decreased, our unemployment rate has yet to return to the pre-pandemic level of 4.94% in February 2020,” he said via video conference, CNBC Indonesia reported on Monday (9/5).
