Jakarta, IO – Trade Minister Zulkifli Hasan, along with the Food and Drug Monitoring Agency (BPOM) head Taruna Ikrar inspected evidence of illegal imported cosmetics at the BPOM office, Jakarta, Monday (30/9).
BPOM and the Trade Ministry (Kemendag), working in close synergy under the framework of the Import Task Force, managed to seize illegal imported cosmetic products worth more than Rp11.4 billion. This was the result of law enforcement operations and intensification of supervision in various regions in Indonesia in the period from June to September.
Taruna explained that the impounded goods consisted of 415,035 pieces from 970 items. They are imported without distribution permits and contain prohibited ingredients, most of which originated from China, the Philippines, Thailand and Malaysia. Some of the brands include Lameila, Brilliant, Balle Metta, and others. They were confiscated from 23 locations across Indonesia.

The perpetrators will be charged with Article 435 of Law 17/2023 concerning health, as well as Law 6/2023 concerning the stipulation of government regulation in lieu of law (Perppu) 2/2022 concerning jobs creation and Law 8/1999 concerning consumer protection. (IO/ Faisal Ramadhan)
