Body Found on Anyer Beach is a Greek

Serang, IO – The body of a foreign man found dead on Anyer Beach on Friday (2/8) has been identified as a Greek national who worked in East Jakarta.

Investigation into the guest list of the Marbella Hotel found that the victim had stayed from February 2 under the name Iakovos Poukamisas, from Athens, Greece,” said the director of Banten water and air police Yunus Hadith Pranoto, as per Detikcom, Wed (13/8).

The victim was born on February 21, 1955 and lived in Cakung. Based on witness statements, the victim had intended to commit suicide.

“The victim intended to commit suicide and showed one glass bottle filled with a roll of yellow paper,” said a witness named Zulfikar, a hotel security guard who interacted with the victim.

In addition, the victim gave a witness named Jamsah prayer book, prayer mat, power bank, marker, cellphone charger, flip-flops, and a seashell. “The large seashell has a message and the victim’s identity written on it,” he said.

“Preliminary autopsy report indicated there was sand in the throat, but the cause of death is still waiting for the results of the hospital’s autopsy.”

Previously, a body suspected of being a foreign national was washed up on Marbella Anyer Beach, Serang regency, at around 6.30am WIB. A piece of paper containing message in English and Indonesian was recovered on the body. When found, the shirtless body was in prone position, wearing shoes and socks. (rr)
