Boy explained that Al-Qaeda was led by Al-Zawahiri after the killing of Osama bin Laden by US Navy SEAL team in Abbottabad, Pakistan, in 2007. Therefore, BNPT will enhance preparedness against Al-Qaeda affiliated groups which have been on its radar so far.

“We will conduct a series of detection activities. The groups that are of concern so far will become the focus of our attention. We will work together with other authorities and elements of the community,” he explained.

Boy hopes that the death of Al-Zawahiri will not significantly increase the activities of terror groups in Indonesia. “We hope there will be no spillover effect,” he added. (un)
