BNPT intensifies monitoring of ex-terrorism convicts after Bandung suicide bomb attack

Jakarta, IO – The National Counterterrorism Agency (BNPT) has intensified its supervision of ex-terrorism convicts in collaboration with local government officials, the Regional Leadership Communication Forum (Forkopimda) and community leaders.

BNPT chief Boy Rafli Amar said this step is taken to prevent similar incident in the future, reported Tempo, Friday (9/12).

He emphasized that counter terrorism measures must involve all parties as it is a rapidly spreading scourge. Boy appeals to the public to work together to prevent radicalism and terrorism.

He further revealed that at least 1,290 people had participated in deradicalization program. Of that, 8 percent are resistant to deradicalization and became recidivists.

The suicide bomb attack at the Astanaanyar police station killed the bomber, one policeman and injured 10 other personnel.

“The state strongly condemns this violent act and expresses its condolences to the victims,” he said. (un)
