Jakarta, IO – Putri Ariani, young blind singer from Riau, wowed the audience with her performance. She managed to get a golden buzzer thanks to her golden voice at the America’s Got Talent (AGT) 18th season on Tuesday (6/6) night.
At the reality talent show, the 17-year-old girl sang two songs. First, she performed her own song titled Loneliness. When she finished, Simon Cowell came on stage and asked her to sing one more song.
Then, Putri again showed off her skills singing Elton John’s song “Sorry Seems to Be the Hardest Word”. Her prowess in playing piano was also appreciated by the judges Simon Cowell, Heidi Klum, Howie Mandel and Sofía Vergara.
After performing flawlessly for less than 3 minutes, she received a golden buzzer from Simon Cowell, who is famous for being highly selective. With the golden buzzer, Putri can immediately advance to the semifinals round.
“I know we all feel the same way. She is 17 years old, writes her own songs. She also has a very distinctive voice, and very, very good,” said Simon.
“I don’t know if this will change your dream or not. Well, here it is,” added Simon while pressing the golden buzzer button.
Putri was seen crying, overwhelmed with emotion over her achievement. The audience also gave her a standing ovation.
Putri Ariani, who was accompanied by her parents, also revealed her dream of continuing art school and was inspired by the diva Whitney Houston. She wants to show people that being blind is not an obstacle to being a superstar.
“My biggest challenge is that people often see me only as a blind person, not as a musician. But when I sing, I feel like a superstar,” said Putri.

Prior to joining the popular show, Putri began to be recognized by the Indonesian public since participating in the 2014 edition of Indonesia’s Got Talent.
Since then, Putri’s singing career has continued to take off as solo singer or in collaboration with other singers. Besides Loneliness, she also wrote Untuk Ayah, Perih, Kaulah Selalu Ada, Banyak Makna Cinta, Menantimu Kembali, and Kamu Lagi. (bp)
