Separately, Prof. Dr. dr. Hanifah Oswari, Sp.A.(K), pediatrician specializing in gastroenterology and hepatology consultancy in Cipto Mangunkusumo Hospital, Jakarta, declared in a media meet held last Thursday (05/05/2022) that there is no evidence that the new, etiologically unknown acute hepatitis is related to Covid-19 vaccine. “Yes, many people are wondering if, and others also believe, that Covid-19 vaccines are related to this new type of acute hepatitis. However, it is much too early to make this conclusion, based on existing data. True, the SARSCoV-2 virus was found in some of the patient’s blood samples, but the correlation between them cannot be conclusively said to be cause and effect. The evidence is simply not strong enough,” he said.

At the same event, dr. Piprim B. Yanuarso, Sp.A(K), General Chairman of IDAI’s Central Management, reported that Indonesia has been implementing a national Hepatitis A and B immunization program for newborn babies up to toddlers 2 years old. The immunization is effective in preventing Hepatitis A and B infection among children.

Both Dr. Kadim and dr. Yanuarso reported that the etiologically unclear acute hepatitis actually infected children who have not been subject to Covid-19 vaccination. (est)
