Jakarta, IO – Recently, the news of foreign tourists who behaved as they pleased while on vacation in Bali have gone viral. The violations include overstaying and disregard of traffic rules.

This prompted Bali Governor I Wayan Koster to prohibit the renting of motorbikes for foreign tourists. Koster said the ban has been instituted in governor regulation on tourism management in Bali.

“When traveling, tourists must use cars from travel agents. They are no longer allowed to borrow or rent,” said Koster, reported Katadata, Monday (13/3).

Koster said based Bali Police data, many foreign tourists have been found to violate traffic rules, ranging from riding shirtless, not wearing a helmet, to not having a driver’s license.

Koster said the rules will be implemented in 2023 because Bali is now bustling with tourists after the pandemic waned. He emphasized that the ban is solely aimed at improving the island’s tourism which attempts to shift from mass tourism to “cultured tourism.”
