The island’s Democratic Progressive Party government has also shown itself to be a ready and indiscriminate buyer of US weapons of the previous generation, making it a practical and profitable place to dump outmoded US weapons.

Washington pays little attention to the fact that its weaponry deliveries to the island have given secessionists more confidence, and that their actions to secure the island’s de facto “independence” have increased tensions across the Taiwan Straits.

The US has ignored the commitment it made in the August 17 Communique in favor of its interest and strategic objective of restraining China’s ascent.

Despite the fag of human rights and freedom it constantly waves while meddling in the internal affairs of other nations, the US has shown no reluctance to reveal that the rule of the jungle is still the standard it abides by when it comes to geopolitical games.

China has made it plain that it views US arms sales to Taiwan as a significant obstacle to the growth of Sino-US ties. The island’s relations with China will only worsen if the US keeps selling it weapons.
