Jakarta, IO – WIR Group (PT WIR ASIA Tbk), a leading immersive technology and web3 company focusing on augmented reality (AR), virtual reality (VR), artificial intelligence (AI), and blockchain in Southeast Asia, participated in Pope Francis’ historic visit to Indonesia from September 3-6, 2024. In collaboration with Scholas Occurrentes, an international organization founded by Pope Francis in 2013, WIR Group creates a unique and meaningful digital experience for the apostolic journey.
Scholas Occurrentes, known for its mission to promote global understanding through education, connects over 400,000 educational centers in 190 countries. WIR Group’s collaboration with the organization represents a significant step in blending cutting-edge technology with universal values of education and unity.
The collaboration presents an AR technology in bringing the Pope’s message closer to the public, allowing millions to virtually engage in a personal encounter with a digital representation of Pope Francis. This technology allows people to experience a unique and personalized virtual photo moment with the Pope, making it accessible to everyone in any location.
“Our participation in Pope Francis’ apostolic journey reflects our commitment to innovation, one that deeply impacts society. The spiritual experience is now closer to everyone, enabling individuals to feel connected to Pope Francis. We believe the experience will echo the spirit of unity and tolerance spread by Pope Francis,” said Stephen Budiman, CEO of WIR Group.
WIR Group also recreated an art installation presented to Pope Francis in their virtual ecosystem, Nusameta. The art installation “Hati Indonesia” is a collaboration of over 1,000 young participants from across Indonesia. It comprises 186 triangular pieces uniquely decorated with various materials, reflecting their artistic expressions. The project was led by renowned architect Marcellus Rafi and organized by Project Manager Pablo Palmeyro.
